We were back in strength last week as we started our new year of rehearsals. We’ve already started cracking on two songs with, ‘You Got the Love’ and ‘You to Me are Everything’. Everyone seems really excited to be back and we are over the moon to tell you we’ve had lots of new and returning faces coming through the door! Would you like to give en Choir a try? Come on down to a free trial rehearsal or contact us with any queries.
At the end of last term we decided that choir members would choose every song we are singing this year and next by popular vote. After making a very long list of songs, the results are in! So far some of the highlights have been ‘California Dreamin‘ (The Mamas and The Papas) and ‘Something Inside So Strong‘ (Liba Siffre) with over 20 votes each! The choir have decided to bring back some of our classic songs such as ‘True Colours‘ (Cyndi Lauper) and Shalom Chaverim as well as the all-time Christmas favourite ‘Fairytale of New York‘ (The Pogues); but we have also branched out to some new songs featuring artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Gloria Gaynor and Marc Cohn. Fancy singing any of these great hits and many more? Come down for a free trial rehearsal on a Wednesday night at 7:30pm at St. Andrew’s Church Hall in Whitstable. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
As our final rehearsal approaches, en Choir are getting ready to put on a performance that you’re never going to forget! Our annual summer concert is this Saturday, 22 July, featuring the talented house band comprised of Matt Hodge on percussion and Akos Hasznos on Bass as well as our dear friends BIGMOUTH Chorus. We look forward to seeing you all there when the doors open at 19:00.
It is official – en Choir have learnt every piece of music to be performed at this year’s annual concert (and more)! Now, we are rehearsing, refining and re-rehearsing each one so we can deliver our best performance yet, for your enjoyment. Don’t forget to get your tickets early and invite all your friends for a fantastic festival of first-rate musical farts…ahem, I mean arts! As always please feel free to contact us with any queries – see you there!
It is Wednesday and it is hot – that can only mean one thing! We are back for a summer term of singing our hearts out and melting in the sunshine (it’s a good job our rehearsals are in the evening)! From now until the end of July en Choir are back and rehearsing vigorously for our summer concert on Saturday 22nd July. Tickets are still on sale so grab yours before they run out! As always, feel free to come down to a free trial rehearsal, or contact us with any queries.
Mascot Dave was getting involved with us last week, even helping Choir Administrator, Elli, to read her music. Dave is with us every week and loves to greet all the choir members before settling down in his bed to watch us sing! Would you like to meet Dave and give en Choir a try? Come to a free trial rehearsal or contact us with any enquiries.
Last week we started learning an unusual arrangement of I Want You Back arranged by en Choir leader Emily Peasgood. With ‘bananas’ in the lyrics and strangely fun vocal techniques we love our new song, as well as others we are learning including: River of Dreams by Billy Joel and When Doves Cry by Prince. Come along – we always accept new members. Just show up on the night or contact us if you have any questions!
It’s been two years since en Choir released their EP and we wanted to share our awesome video with you again. Filmed and recorded by the fantastic Anton French, watch en Choir sing Africa by Toto, Senwa Dedende and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For by U2.
The first step in developing vocal technique is to establish a good posture for singing. Your body is your instrument and poor alignment or unnecessary tension can effect how well you sing. Good posture enables good breathing. Think of your body as the engine that drives your voice and your breath as the fuel that drives the engine.
