We are incredibly proud of our choir leader and chief rubber chicken lover! Recently, Emily was nominated for not just once but twice for a British Composers’ Award! She said she was, “very pleased to announce that my works BIRDS and other Stories (2017) and Crossing Over (2016) have been nominated for British Composer Awards. The awards promote the art of composition, recognise the creative talent of composers and sound artists, and bring their music to a wider audience. They are unique in making contemporary music, jazz and sonic art the focus of their annual celebration. Founded by BASCA, The British Composer Awards are sponsored by PRS and presented in association with BBC Radio 3 who provide exclusive broadcast coverage of the awards. The ceremony will take place on 6 December at the British Museum.” We would like to wish Emily the best of luck for the awards ceremony in December.
No, not until Christmas Day! There’s 42 days until the most festive party of them all! That’s right, we are in full preparation for our Friends and Family Concert to be held on 20th December. We like to show off a little to our close ones to show them what we’ve been working on so far this year as well as raise the Christmas spirit with a few festive classics such as ‘Fairytale of New York‘ and ‘Carol of the Bells‘ plus much more. Sound good? Come down for a free trial rehearsal on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 or contact us with any queries; all we ask is enthusiasm and there are strictly no auditions!
We’re back! With well rested throats and clear albeit chilly lungs, we will be roaring back to rehearsals this evening. This term will not only be a continuation of the fun and varying difficulty songs that we talked to you about in previous entries, but also it is the run up to our Christmas party! Starting this evening, we will be learning and rehearsing some more festive tunes. If you’d like to give en Choir a try then feel free to pop along to a free trial rehearsal or contact us with any queries.
Tonight is our last rehearsal for a little while as we take a break over school half term. But never fear! We will be back in force, singing our lungs out in just two short weeks. If you’d like to give en Choir a go then please feel free to attend a free trial rehearsal…just not on Wednesday 25th October! We’ll be back on Wednesday 1st November so come on down or contact us with any enquiries.
We have recently received news that an anonymous source has made a generous donation to en Choir! This has meant that sheet music for our new repertoire is now part funded and the cost has been lowered for our members. Needless to say everyone is very excited by this news as well as exceedingly grateful to our donor who has elected to remain anonymous. If you’d like to try this new repertoire with a fun and exciting choir please feel free to pop down for a free trial or contact us with any queries!
Have you heard? The official photos from this year’s annual concert are now available for viewing! Our awesome photographer, Ren Smith, did a marvellous job of capturing both our final rehearsal and the concert. So if you’d like to see a bit of what we do then please feel free to have a browse! If you’d like to come to a free trial session then you’re welcome to attend on a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm or contact us with any queries.
This week brings new trials for en Choir as we learn the fun and fast paced ‘Rhythm of Life‘ by the talented Sammy Davis Jr. and as seen in Sweet Charity. As well as this we are developing our a cappella repertoire with ‘Only You‘ created by Yazoo and covered by Flying Pickets in 1984. Fancy giving these songs and many more a try? Come down to a free trial session on a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm or feel free to contact us with any queries.
We were back in strength last week as we started our new year of rehearsals. We’ve already started cracking on two songs with, ‘You Got the Love’ and ‘You to Me are Everything’. Everyone seems really excited to be back and we are over the moon to tell you we’ve had lots of new and returning faces coming through the door! Would you like to give en Choir a try? Come on down to a free trial rehearsal or contact us with any queries.
At the end of last term we decided that choir members would choose every song we are singing this year and next by popular vote. After making a very long list of songs, the results are in! So far some of the highlights have been ‘California Dreamin‘ (The Mamas and The Papas) and ‘Something Inside So Strong‘ (Liba Siffre) with over 20 votes each! The choir have decided to bring back some of our classic songs such as ‘True Colours‘ (Cyndi Lauper) and Shalom Chaverim as well as the all-time Christmas favourite ‘Fairytale of New York‘ (The Pogues); but we have also branched out to some new songs featuring artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Gloria Gaynor and Marc Cohn. Fancy singing any of these great hits and many more? Come down for a free trial rehearsal on a Wednesday night at 7:30pm at St. Andrew’s Church Hall in Whitstable. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
As our final rehearsal approaches, en Choir are getting ready to put on a performance that you’re never going to forget! Our annual summer concert is this Saturday, 22 July, featuring the talented house band comprised of Matt Hodge on percussion and Akos Hasznos on Bass as well as our dear friends BIGMOUTH Chorus. We look forward to seeing you all there when the doors open at 19:00.
